Space clearing to help you do clutter clearing

It always works best to do clutter clearing before space clearing. But do you know there is also a way to use space clearing to help you DO clutter clearing?
Space clearing to help you do clutter clearing

The effect of space clearing will only be minimal if your home is filled with clutter, so it always works best if you declutter first.

Why clutter is a problem

It was a surprise to many people when I included a lengthy chapter about clutter clearing in the first space clearing book I published in 1996. At that time, it was news to most people that clutter could even be a problem. It was generally thought that keeping things that might come in useful someday was a good thing.

I explained in that book how clutter creates an obstacle to the flow of energies around a home. This causes stagnant energies to accumulate, which in turn creates stagnation and stuckness in the lives of the people who live there. The person who owns the clutter is usually affected the most, but it will affect other occupants too.

Soon I started to hear from thousands of people who had read as far as the clutter clearing chapter of the book and never got beyond it. They wanted to do space clearing but needed to clear their clutter first.

That was why I wrote my second book Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui, which has sold over 2 million copies so far. It seems there’s a lot more clutter in the world than I imagined!

Space clearing BEFORE clutter clearing

Many people are able to clear their clutter by themselves or with some help from my books or online courses. However, some feel so overwhelmed that they can’t even make a start.

For anyone in this situation, Richard offers personalized online clutter clearing sessions and we’ve also included some helpful information in our new space clearing books.

SPACE CLEARING, VOLUME 1: The art of clearing and revitalizing energies in buildings
You can find step-by-step instructions in this book for how to do space clearing after clutter clearing.

SPACE CLEARING, VOLUME 2: How space clearing works
We explain in this book how to do space clearing before clutter clearing, if you need help to get started or to continue decluttering.

The ceremony won’t be as effective as when space clearing a clutter-free home. But it will help to clear the stuck energies around clutter, which will make it a lot easier to sort through it and decide what to keep or let go.

Here are some tips about the best way to do it:

  • The only equipment you will need for this level space clearing is a Balinese space clearing bell and a harmony ball.
  • Choose a day when you have no other commitments so you can do space clearing in the morning and use the momentum this creates to do clutter clearing straight after.
  • If you have a lot of clutter, don’t attempt to space clear your entire home. Space clear and declutter one room at a time before moving on to the next.

You can find more information about this in Chapter 34 of Space Clearing, Volume 2.

Dear Karen, I have been clutter clearing for years. I have a beautiful Balinese bell to do space clearing. The trouble is that I never feel that my house is in a good enough state to start. I have cleaned and cleared but being a bit of a perfectionist (!) feel that I should always do more. A ridiculous situation as I will never start space clearing at this rate. HELP!!

    1. Hi Michele – In this article I explain that it works best to do clutter clearing before space clearing, but it is also possible to do space clearing before clutter clearing, to help you complete it.

Perfectionism is the great paralyzer and it is not required. Just read the instructions in Space Clearing, Volume 1 about how to do Basic Space Clearing and do it!

If you need help with clutter clearing or to overcome procrastination, you are very welcome to take my online courses to help you with these aspects too.
